1. Project Template
A project template is a feature that simplifies the creation of projects with similar configurations.
It is possible to export an existing project's template and utilize it to create a new one. This template will save and apply some of the old project parameters to the new one. This was designed to facilitate the creation of a project, expediting the process.
1.1 Replicated settings
By exporting a template, the following settings will be recorded:
- Organizational Unit;
- Contact person;
- Language pair;
- Translation memories and their project settings;
- Glossary;
- Pricelist;
- Translation settings;
- Quote automation (enabled or disabled);
- Auto task placement (enabled or disabled);
- Workflows.
2. Export Project Template
It is possible to export the template of any already-created project.
This can be done by entering the project, then clicking on Project Actions > Export Project Template.
A .JSON file containing the project data will be generated. Then, select where on your computer the template file should be saved.
The template file will be named after the project's number. This way, the same template file can be used to create as many new projects as needed.
Below is an example of what the .JSON file looks like.
To read more about the project, see the article Project Overview.
3. Import Project Template
The saved template can be used for project creation. It should be selected in Step 2 of the creation process.
To create a project using a template, go through project creation as usual.
- Select your files and define the file settings in Step 1.
- Select your .JSON file template on Step 2.
- Continue to fill in the necessary information, like defining your project name.
- Continue to Step 3 and create your project.
You can read more about project creation and its settings in our article: How to create a translation project in Bureau Works.
3.1 Removing the template
It is possible to remove an imported template in Step 2 of the project creation.
If you need to remove a template, whether to select a new one or to fill in all the information manually, you can simply click on the trashcan icon.
3.2 Customizing the template
While project templates come with predefined data to streamline project creation, users have the flexibility to customize certain information during the project setup process by leveraging template data. After importing a template and loading its data, users can modify specific details as needed.
Any changes made to the template data will cause the remaining configurations to be adjusted accordingly.
For example, if the project's Organizational Unit needs to be changed, the selected assets will be updated accordingly. This means that assets unrelated to the new Unit will be removed while assets associated with the new Unit will be kept, ensuring that only relevant contexts are included in the project.
When changing the Organizational Unit of a project template, the following settings will be preserved:
- Contact person;
- Language pair;
- Translation settings;
- Quote automation (enabled or disabled);
- Auto task placement (enabled or disabled);
- Workflows;
- Context assets associated with the new Organizational Unit.
For instance, if a template imports three translation memories but the new Organizational Unit shares only one of them, only that single translation memory will be imported into the project.
