1. Overview
Bureau Works allows you to upload different file formats into your projects, and some of those files may contain textual information that's not relevant for the project.
Formats like .HTML or. JSON, for example, have textual information like markings and tags that, most of the time, do not belong to the content that needs translation.
Example of .JSON file. Note that there are marking elements, like "name" and "segment", that may not be relevant for translation, so they must be ignored in the file parsing.
In those cases, you can use the Project Filter. This tool allows you to set specific filtering options for different types of files and save them for future uses, and then you don't need to set up those configurations every time you start a new project.
The Project Filter is associated with Organizational Units, so you will be able to use it in every project you create under that Org. Unit. In order to access the Project Filters, first of all, you must navigate to your Org. Units tab.
Now, you must select the desired Organizational Unit that will hold the Project Filter for future projects. Once you've selected the Org. Unit, you must navigate to your "Project" tab and locate the "Filter Settings".
Click on the blue arrow to expand the Filter Settings box. Now you are able to see and manage already created filters and create new ones as well.
The filter has a Default property that, when turned on, makes this the default filter for every project that uses this type of file. The Type column indicates the format of the file (in this case, .CSV), and the Name column indicates the filter's name that was given by you.
Also, you can Edit the filter and Erase it by clicking on the buttons that are pointed by the arrows:
2. Creating a Filter for your Projects
For creating a new Filter, first you must click on the Add button. This will open a prompt for you to indicate for which file type this filter will be applied. Defining a file type is crucial, since each type has its own specificities.
For the following example, we will use the .JSON file format. Please note that for some file types the available fields will vary, and some will offer more configuration options, while others will offer less. This way, you will have to deal with each file type individually.
The fields marked as red are common to every file type.
- Filter Name: Fill in with the name you wish to give to this filter
- Apply Segmentation to text: If turned on, the system will apply it's rules of segmentation into the text
- RegEx for tags: define the regular expressions that will be identified as tags and will be excluded from the content to be translated.
You can also modify those parameters directly from the Project window every time you upload a new file:
Different file types will have different options for configuration. We have an article that covers some details about specific file configuration, and you can find it here.
3. Applying the Filter to Your Project
When uploading a file to a project, you'll be able to use your saved project filter. For this, you must open the File Configuration tab and click on the "Filter" button. This will display your saved filters for this type of file, and you can apply them by just selecting the desired one from the dropdown menu.
