This article will walk you through the process of creating a translation memory in Bureau Works.
1. Creating a Translation Memory (TM)
2. Managing a TM
2.1 Adding segments
3. Linking a TM to an Organizational Unit (Account Admin)
4. Linking a Translation Memory to a Project
1. Creating a Translation Memory (TM)
-
On the Bureau Works Index page, click on Translation Memory and then in Translation Memories
-
Click on
Add TM
-
Fill in all the necessary information and click on
Create
1. Name: TM name. This is how we find this translation memory in the system
2. Organization: Organization to which the TM belongs
3. Source Language: it must be a single-origin language
4. Target Languages: you can add several target languages
2. Managing a TM
-
After being created, a TM has the following structure:
1. The Organization to which the TM belongs;
2. The Organizational Unit where the TM is linked - A single TM can be linked to multiple Organizational Units;
3. Total of stored segments (source + targets);
4. Last imported file;
5. Source language and target languages;
6. TM content and search field.
2.1 Adding segments
It is possible to add segments to a TM in three different ways:
- Manually adding a segment directly in the TM page:
- Importing a .TMX file directly in the TM page:
The importing process might take a while to complete, depending on the size of the .TMX file. After completing importing, it is possible to check the success of the operation by clicking in the Last Import button.
- Confirming the segments directly in the Editor. You can read more about Bureau Works Editor in this article.
If you want to learn more how to add or edit TM segments, please refer to the article:
How to add new segments to the Translation Memories
3. Linking a TM to an Organizational Unit (Account Admin)
In Organizational Units settings, you can link the TM that must be used on the Projects
-
In the Organizational Units initial screen, click on Translation Memories and then on
Add
and choose the TM you want to link to the Organizational Unit:
-
You can set up the TM as:
1. Default: if activated, the TM will be automatically chosen to be used in the projects of the Organizational Unit
2. Read: permission to view the TM
3. Write: if enabled, once a segment gets confirmed, the content from this segment will be saved in the TM
4. Penalty: a penalty applied to a TM reduces the match percentage of translation entries. For example, adding a 5% penalty will make a 100% entry have a 95% match.
5. Threshold: The threshold used to display the TM results in the translation suggestions tab (in the Bureau Works Editor). Only results above the threshold will be displayed.
4. Linking a Translation Memory to a Project
-
When creating a new project, in Step 2, it is possible to link a TM to it. If there is a Default TM, the TM field will be filled in automatically.
-
On the Project page, click on Translation Memory to view which TM is linked to the Project
It is possible to configure the way the TM will work in each Project:
1. Penalty: as explained above, a penalty applied to a TM reduces the match percentage of translation entries. For example, adding a 5% penalty will make a 100% entry have a 95% match.
2. Threshold: as the name says, it is a threshold used to display the TM results in the translation suggestions tab (in the Bureau Works Editor). Only results above the threshold will be displayed.
3. Read: permission to view the TM
4. Write: if active, the linguist can add terms to the TM once he confirms the translated segments.
