This article will guide you on how to export and import XLIFF files in the BWX platform, in case you need to work outside of BWX (translate or review content into another CAT tool).
1. Exporting XLIFF files from BWX
You must find and access the project you want to export the XLIFF files or Localization kit. For example, you may click on Projects and use the Filter tool to find the project you want to work on
Once you enter into the project, you can export .xliff files in two different ways:
1.1 One file at a time
1.2 Multiple files simultaneously
1.1 Exporting one file at a time
Select the Work Unit you want to export and click on
Export to XLIFF
One ZIP file containing all the selected XLIFFs will be automatically downloaded.
1.2 Exporting multiple files simultaneously
Select the Work Units you want to export and click on
⚠️There are two download options including XLIFF: XLIFF and Loc-kit
➡️ Marking the
XLIFF options, only the XLIFF files will be downloaded
➡️ Marking the
Loc-Kit option, both the XLIFF file and TMX file (Translation Memory) will be downloaded.
After choosing the Exporting option, click on
Selected Work Units
You can also click on the Whole project at workflow if you wish to download all the files from the selected workflow.
2. How to import XLIFF files back to BWX
Step 1 is required (Exporting XLIFF files from BWX)
Prior to proceeding with this step 2 is assumed that
a) Only translatable content should be modified during the Translation process and ;
b) The xlf structure should be kept intact to avoid any problems when importing it back into BWX. If the third-party CAT Tool changes the file structure in any way or tags, this may not allow the file to be imported back properly into BWX.
If the requirements above were properly followed, you should go back to the project where you exported the xliff package and proceed with the importing process.
You can import the translated/reviewed XLIFF files in two different ways:
2.1 One file at a time
2.2 Multiple files simultaneously
2.1 Importing one file at a time
Click on the
three pointsof the Work Unit you want to Import and click on
2.2 Importing multiple files simultaneously
Just click on
Import/Exportand then, on
Bulk Import XLIFF
➡️When importing the XLIFF file, you can automatically confirm all the segments. For that, select the
Confirm imported segments option
⚠️ If you choose to confirm the segments:
Translations will be added to the Target language in the same Work Unit when the XLIFF file was imported
The Confirmed segments will be translated/reviewed
Translation will be saved in Translation memory (if “Write” is selected in the TM submenu)
Translations will be copied to the next workflow
⚠️ If you chose to not confirm the segments
Translations will be added to the Target language in the same work Unit where the XLIFF file was exported previously
The XLIFF structure must be kept when uploading/downloading in another CAT tool.
