In order to open the Editor, you must click on Open in Editor through the project overview or via the Tasks tab.
1. Editor Top Bar - Section 1
1.1. Filename
- This is the space where your file's name will be displayed. If the name is too long, the platform will truncate it, but by hovering your mouse over it, you can view the full name, including its extension.
1.2. Number of segments and progress bar
- The progress bar provides a visual representation of your file's progress, indicating the percentage of confirmed segments. Hovering your mouse over it will reveal the exact percentage number, allowing you to track the completion status with precision.
1.3. File's size
- This is where you are able to check your file's size.
1.4. Workflow step and source and target languages
- In this section, you can view the workflow step, as well as the source and target languages. Hovering your mouse over the workflow tag will display the complete name of the workflow step, providing you with more detailed information.
1.5. Extra information
- When you hover your mouse over it, the platform will present a small window that displays the number of words, segments, and characters that have already been confirmed, considering the total count in the file.
1.6. Go to segment button
- When clicking on this button, the platform will display a window. From there, you can type the segment number you wish to go to. This is very useful for bigger files.
1.7. Select all segments button

By clicking on this button, the platform will conveniently select the first 200 segments for you (or fewer if your file has less than 200 segments). Once the desired segments are selected, you will have the option to perform bulk actions such as confirming, unconfirming, locking, and unlocking them. You can also choose whether or not to include non-translatable segments in these actions.
Please note that currently, these actions can be performed on up to 200 segments at a time. If your file contains more than 200 segments, a list with the segment ranges will be displayed on the right side for your reference.
1.8. Translate button

In addition to the automatic translation that takes place upon project approval, you also have the flexibility to achieve this within our editor. By clicking on the Translate button, you will find several options:
- Translate with Project's Default Settings: This option allows you to translate the file using the project's default settings.
- Change Translation Settings: The second option allows you to modify the translation settings to suit your preferences.
- Copy Source to Target: This option comes in handy when dealing with similar source and target languages, like Portuguese (Brazil) and Portuguese (Portugal). It allows you to automatically copy the source text into empty segments, simplifying the translation process.
These features give you greater control and convenience while working on your translations within our editor.
1.9. Confirm all button
- By clicking this button, all segments in the file will be automatically confirmed, except for the empty ones as they cannot be confirmed. A window will appear, giving you the option to decide whether the confirmed segments should also be saved in the configured Translation Memories (TMs) or not.
1.10. Download button
- Through this option, it is possible to download the translated and original file.
1.11. Delivery button
- After clicking the Deliver Task button, the platform will conduct a search for tag mismatches. If no mismatches are found, the task will be delivered.
- Should the system detect tag mismatches, a warning message will be presented to the user. At this point, the user has the option to proceed with file delivery despite the mismatch or to close the window in order to rectify the tag mismatches.
⚠️ Please note that once the task is delivered, it cannot be edited anymore. This security measure ensures that subsequent workflows or the overall project delivery remain consistent and reliable.
2. Editor Top Bar - Section 2
Located at the upper right-hand corner, within our top bar, you will find three buttons:

By clicking on preview, you can have a preview of the translated content on the screen. The preview structure is the following:
On the upper left side, there are some features:
- Hide/Show Preview
- Full Screen
- Expand the Preview Screen
- Shrink Preview Screen
- View Mode (Code/Web/Docs Preview)

2.2. Open/close Menu
Bureau Works Editor menu brings a new series of features to help the content translations/reviews works. The Menu structure is the following:
- Editor's Comments: You can add comments to each segment
- Suggestions (from translation memory, machine translation, glossaries and AI): The main panel used during the content localization process
- Instructions: Here, any instructions useful for the project will be shown along with Reference files
- QA Check Tool: QA Check is a tool that helps linguists verify possible inconsistencies in their translations
- Search on TM: This tab can be used to search for any sentence available in the Translation Memories associated with the project
- Glossary: This tab can be used to search for any terms available in the Glossaries associated with the project
- Filter: You can filter source or target segments in the content available for translation from this tab
- Translation Change: This tab will display any changes that were made to the content in previous steps of the localization workflow. This applies only to different workflows of the same task
- Document: From this tab, you will able to see the project name, reference, client and owner and will also have some options to customize the Editor based on your preferences
- Review: From this tab, it is possible to review PDF files

2.3. Help/Shortcuts
Bureau Works offers keyboard shortcuts to streamline the translation/review work.

3. Segments
Directly below our top bar is the dedicated workspace where linguists can effectively carry out their tasks. Here, the job is divided into segments to facilitate efficient completion.
Segments have the following parts:
3.1. Selection box
- When a segment is selected, it will turn yellow.
3.2. Lock/unlock icon
- Locking segments will automatically confirm them. All locked segments will be also confirmed.
3.3. Segment number
- This number corresponds to the segment and will be sequentially numbered based on its position within the editor. It can serve as a reference point when needed.
3.4. Source field
- This is the designated area for the content requiring translation.
3.5. Translation field
- This is where you will type the translations and review them.
3.6. Source and target characters
- The platform will count not only the source content characters but will be counting the translation characters too.
3.7. Content source
- When the target field is filled with automated content, a small label will appear on its bottom right corner, indicating the source of the content. When the content originates from a TM, the platform will additionally exhibit the content match.
- The label will change to green once the segment is confirmed, and it is also possible to click on them to reapply the translation.
3.8. Confirm/unconfirm icon
- The confirmation icon may change according to its status and workflow. When green means that the segment is confirmed, the "Reviewed" with only check mark is how the reviewer will see it on the review step, whenever a change is made, while the "Reviewed" with two check marks is the view from the previous workflow, meaning that this segments was already reviewed and can't be changed. Both of them provides the information on about was changed and the change category.
3.9. Ask AI to review button
- This functionality is part of our AI-related integrations, and its button will become visible if your account has the AI integration enabled. For more information about AI Review, please click here.
3.10. Repetition icon
- When the segment is a repetition, you will find one of the following two icons located at its lower right corner:
The first indicates the first repetition and the second one, a regular one.
⚠️ Please notice that repetitions will replicate their translations from the top to bottom only and currently, segments with the same source content across different files are not considered as repetitions.
