If you want to learn how to add new segments to the Translation Memories, please refer to this one.
This article will show you how to use the Translation Memory search and find terms or segments in an assertive way.
- Once you find the Translation Memory you want to look into, you can start your search.
Our platform provides the following options on how to search on the TMs:
- Fuzzy Search using Threshold
- Full Text Search using the Match Type “Contains”
- Full Text Search using the Match Type “Expression”
Fuzzy Search
The Fuzzy Search will take into consideration the entire segment. The lowest Threshold you can select is 49%.
Given the following segment that is already saved in the Translation Memory:
Whenever some change is needed, the Save button must be hit.
If you type exactly the same segment, your result will show a 100% match:
If you type only the following and keep the Threshold as 75%, the search will show you every find with a 75% match or upper. In this case, we have an 88.58% match.
The Fuzzy search will always respond according to the percentage of the segment you type and the Threshold you select.
Full Text Search using the Match Type “Contains”
It will return any segment that Contains any word or determined group of words you type in the search field. You can select the language you want to search, including the TM Source Language or any Target Language that is saved into it.
Full Text Search using the Match Type “Expression”
It will return any segment that contains two separate words (AND) or only one or both of them (OR).
Given the same segment as before:
Whenever some change is needed, the Save button must be hit.
If you type the following, using the “AND”:
⚠️ No segments will be found because our original segment does not contain the word “example”.
Now, using the “OR” as follows:
⚠️ Our segment will be found since it has as least one of the two terms we searched for.
Note that in both Full Text search options, you can change how many rows and columns you want the platform to show.
- The Rows refer to how many rows of results you want to visualize on the same page.
- The Columns refer to which Target Languages you want to show on your search. The default is all of TM's Target Languages.
